I spent hours scouring different mattress reviews of various qualities, and landed on this one as the absolutely most affordable with pretty comparable reviews to more pricey products. I'm a side sleeper, and I do use a 1 inch memory foam cooling pad on top of any mattress. First off, the queen-sized box is heavy and quite a challenge for one person unless you are particularly burly. The "plastic tool" they send to open it that people reference is simply a letter opener. They do not explain how to use a letter opener, so, I'm guessing people who don't understand botched it up. Take the plastic tip, where there is like a "mouth" on the tool, where the inset razor blade is facing downward, and hook that plastic tip on the plastic where the seam of the highly compressed and rolled mattress is overlapping on itself. In this spot, the plastic tip will slide through the little gap where there is no fabric, while the razorblade slices through the thick plastic layers. As soon as you reach the end, the mattress will spring out, so be prepared to hop back, and give it enough room where you unbox it to lay flat in place. Unbox it ASAP, the longer it stays compressed, the less the product durability will be for you. I unboxed it immediately, and let it lay flat in a room by itself for 48 hours. The chemical smell from all the glue and whatnot they use to build a mattress was INTENSE for that first 48 hours. I did need to air the house out, to not be gagging on it. The smell did dissipate though. And then the first night of sleep on it was so beyond delightful, and the following nights have been good too. It was a little squishier than I had anticipated, and I feared I may have some pain from it - but I woke up with no pain (compared to the Inofia Twin I'd been using before upgrading to this Queen). As a side-sleeper (who often wakes up on my back), I personally do not want an *extremely* firm mattress - this may not be preferably firm enough for people weighing more than 200lbs and back sleeping all night. I have a Maine Coon who sleeps with me, and he is not heavy enough for me to notice him moving around on it, but I have no doubt I would feel another person moving around. The edges are much squishier than the center, and I imagine the walls would break down if the edge of this bed were used as a seat regularly (I know some people do this). I do think there is a likelihood the bed will form some indentations with regular sleeping in the same spot. For the price? Still a 5 star, because that's not so bad. BEWARE though, as you may have noticed about the people who have complained about the mattress being the wrong dimensions - there is an insert in the packaging that says this is possible due to how the machine cuts the fabric. With this order, you are indeed gambling on being the statistical improbability that gets the wrong shape/size mattress, and it can't be sent back easily. If you are in need of assurance of size, and want something back/stomach-sleeper firm, this is likely not the bed for you. If you're into risking it and can deal with a mishap, are a side-sleeper looking for the perfect firmness, and like quality at extreme affordability, don't hesitate, this bed is exactly what you need.
