I was excited when EMAY came out with the SleepO2 Pro. I had EMAY's finger pulse oximeter with app to monitor my sleep apnea (not that it would improve my apnea, but at least I was able to monitor it). When EMAY announced its SleepO2 Pro, I was excited because of its greater functionality. It is more like a home sleep study device, similar to the home sleep study device I was given by my doctor to see if I had sleep apnea (and unfortunately, I did). Thus, I wish to review the SleepO2 Pro for anyone wishing to self-diagnose potential sleep apnea. Even though EMAY does not identify this as a diagnostic device, it provides you with the appropriate information you can share with your doctor. You can also use it to monitor your oxygen levels and pulse during intense daily activities such as exercise or sports. In this review, I go from opening the box to reviewing the reports, hoping that it will provide enough information to help you make a purchase decision one way or the other.Opening the box - the package comes with the wristband recording device, two nasal cannulas that monitor your air flow, a finger probe that monitors your oxygen levels and pulse, a USB cable to connect the device to your PC, a USB wall charger, a user manual and two optional disposable finger probes (in case the silicone probe isn't suitable for you).Using the device - The first thing I did was read the user manual so that I would ensure I used the device properly. The manual was small and concise, but had enough detail and illustrations to understand how to use the device. It was actually quite well done. However, I did notice that the manual's menu for operation was inconsistent with the device's menu (I have contacted the company about this discrepancy so hopefully it will be fixed). But the device menu was intuitive enough to figure it out on one's own. Also, the manual suggests that you wear a long-sleeved shirt to keep the nasal tube in place while you sleep. I tried that and found it cumbersome. So I actually ended up wearing the tube loose and had no problem.I did have a problem with one of the nasal cannulas. Although the instructions were very clear on how to insert it, it wouldn't stay in my nose and woke me up all night. Perhaps it was just defective, because I used the second one the following night and it worked fine. The finger probe seemed like it wouldn't stay put because of its width, but once it was on my finger, it was snug and easy to manage.Recording the data - To start the recording for sleep monitoring, you simply go into the Main Menu and follow the instructions in the user manual. Again, the device's menu is intuitive enough that you can do it on your own.Once you have your recording on the device, which carries 20 hours of recorded data, you can download this onto to your PC using the USB cable that came with the kit. The instructions in the user manual clearly show you how to download and access the data, then how to analyze it and even how to generate and save a comprehensive report to share with your doctor. All in all, I was quite pleased with the performance of the SleepO2 Pro, and would recommend it to anyone interested in monitoring their oxygen levels, pulse and potential apnea events, during both sleep and intense daily activities such as exercise or sports.
