Description

Expansion tanks are essential for solar water heater systems. The Red expansion tank is used for relieving pressure build-up in the closed loop system. This helps keep the pressure consistent and relieve pressure from the piping as the working fluid increases in temperature. Should the solar system go into overheat mode and shut down the circulation pump, the expansion tank is essential for preventing the pressure valve from blowing out the working fluid. The Red Duda Solar expansion tank is fitted with a special high temperature EPDM membrane made in Italy which can withstand the high temperatures of the solar systems. The size of the expansion tank needed depends on the total amount of fluid used in the closed loop (maximum possible volume). Some data regarding common fluid volumes in the solar systems is in the chart below. As an example, a standard 300 liter solar system has a 30 tube collector, 100 feet of 1/2" stainless steel tubing and a 300 liter tank (25m coil) for a total of ~7 liters of fluid volume, requiring at least an 8 Liter expansion tank.

Features

    Capacity 50 liter/13.2 gallon connection 1 inch NPT pre-charge pressure 2 bar/29 psi

Membrane Type special high temperature EPDM (made in Italy), max fluid temperature 130°c (266°f)

Color red, max pressure 10 bar (145 psi), tank material deep draw cold steel

Membrane certifications NSF51, hygienic certified, approved by EU and USA institutions

Flange & connections material St37, galvanized Carbon steel

I used this tank with my existing 4 stage reverse osmosis filter system. The bladder in the original tank failed after more than 10 years of service. This has double the volume of the original which means that we can still make tasty coffee after boiling a big pot of pasta and having a glass of water with our meal. No more waiting for the tank to refill!Found the fittings needed to adapt 3/4" connection to original tubing (1/4" if i remember correctly) at the local hardware storeand after removing the plastic valve cover the tank now sits on the plastic "socket" that came with the original tank.I let the tank fill up and drain fully twice before using the water to remove any possible contaminants.Overall i am very happy with the upgrade and the price (important) was the best I could find anywhere!Note: The tank comes pre-pressurized at about 30 PSI. That will NOT work for this application! With a reverse osmosis filter system the pressure BEFORE installation should be 5-7 PSI.Wish I checked that earlier but I am a man, a standard tire pressure gauge worked fine to get it right.
