I have been heating with pellet stoves for the past 4 years, and this gauge has dramatically improved the performance of my stoves. Prior to using this gauge I adjusted by eye, you know, avoid the lazy or blowtorch flame, and adjust to get the efficient flame. I thought I did it right but had no idea how far off I was, and sad to say, I now know that the advice from forums turned out to be not so good. Here is what improved for heating my New England located home: 1. I get the same amount of heat from the lowest setting that I used to get from med-high setting. 2. One 40 pound bag of 0.6% ash low moisture pellets lasts as long as 2 bags (or more) used to last. 3. My glass stays clean. 4. Clinkers have disappeared. 5. No more ash build up in the burn pot. 6. I clean the burn pot and burn chamber with the brush that came with the stove, no more scraping with a putty knife. Here are things you may need and the procedure: The gauge and case are purchased separately here on Amazon. The case kit is padded inside and comes with a gauge mount, some parts for assembly, and tubing. The stove is adjusted on high and it is hot so this kit made everything so much easier for me. The very flexible rubber-like tubing is long so it is easy to keep it off the hot surfaces and the case is excellent for storage. I also used Teflon tape when assembling the gauge, you will need to screw in the plugs and nipples that come with it. Setting the flame: I turned the stove to high and let it run for 30 minutes. My stove has a small hole in the front that passes directly into the fire chamber which is actually in a vacuum, this is what the gauge reads. I have a fire chamber adapter that fits the tubing and hole perfectly. The last step was to move the damper in and out to adjust the gauge for my stove to .10 -.13 WC (inches of water). Wow, the flame did not look anything like I expected, it is rather slow burning, but produces so much heat. Also, I noticed that a lot of heat used to come out of the vent pipe (outdoors) and I figured that was the nature of the stove. This was another dramatic change, now the air is much cooler coming out of the vent pipe, still pretty warm, but no longer hot. This tells me there is much less wasted heat and more going into my home where it should be. Hope this helps.
